Service Initiatives 2010-2011
Spring 2011 Semester The Kappa Sisters have been actively helping out their school and community! Besides an extremely successful week of Take Back the Night, the Kappa sisters made a difference in the Emerson and Boston community through many other varies events. This past spring semester, the sister's raised over $3,000 for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and received a Bronze-Level Fundraising Award in March. Kappa's volunteered at soup kitchens as well as at Hill House events. They held a very successful, campus-wide blood drive in February for the Red Cross. Throughout the semester, Kappa's held a dress drive to collect prom dresses for The Fairy Godmother Project and hope to participate in the always-popular Princess Boutique Day, where the Sisters were personal stylists to less fortunate young girls. Fall 2010 Semester Last fall semester, they completed hundreds of hours of service with the intention of making a difference. In October, Kappa Gamma Chi raised over $2,000 for the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Sisters volunteered their time to set up for the walk, and over 20 of our sisters completed the 5 mile walk to support the cause. They also worked the Halloween Town event for the Boston Children's Hospital at the Prudential Center as well as a Kid's Halloween Party at the Hill House. Sisters volunteered their time to run an American Red Cross Blood Drive in November. As done in the past, we prepared and served lunch multiple times at the St. Francis House to feed those less fortunate. We ended off the semester with our annual Kappa Kookies, where the entire sisterhood cooked and delivered 140 batches of cookies to the many departments and offices on campus. |
